It released for Steam on June 12, 2014, and for the Windows 10 Store on September 14, 2017, with Xbox Live achievements and cross-play with the Steam version. Rise of Nations: Extended Edition is a re-release of the main game and its expansion. Rise of Nations features 18 civilizations, playable through eight ages of world history. The game has taken several concepts from turn-based strategy games such as territories and attrition warfare. The development was led by veteran game designer Brian Reynolds, of Civilization II and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. The symptoms are leading me to believe that your video card is starting to fail after having been on for a certain period of time.Rise of Nations is a real-time strategy video game developed by Big Huge Games and published by Microsoft Game Studios in May 2003. You may want to go into your local Apple store or repair shop and have the video card looked at. James Wroblewski at MacSoft Games Support The other thing that I want to verify is that if the computer has been on for awhile and then you play RoN that this is when you notice that you get frequent quick crashes. Can you verify for me that if you turn your computer on after it's been off for a long period of time and start the game that it will run for a long time but eventually crashes. You mentioned that the game will run for an extend time frame but will eventually crash. It just blinks a bit, the game goes on for a split second, then the window's still there, game frozen behind it. Pressing the "ok" button on the window doesn't make the window disappear. With the window popup, I have to force quit the game. But it's an entirely different incident from the crashes I usually experience, wherein the game freezes a bit and quits unexpectedly. No, i've gotten that window thing a few times before. I've also included a screenshot of a window that i've seen appear several times, rendering the game unplayable.ĭo you always get this message before the game crashes for you, or is this something you just got and are sending us the screenshot? Thanks.

I've attached some more crash reports below. When it's not crashing, the game runs quite smoothly as always. They've happened during game intro, loading of saved games, big battles, building, screen scrolling. Crashes still occur as frequently as before, just a few minutes into a game. I've downloaded the OS X 10.3.8 Combined as you suggested but I'm still having the same problems. James Wroblewski at MacSoft Games Support

Can you also tell me if there is anything specific that you've noticed happing just prior to the crash (big battle, explosions, age advancement, auto save, manual save)? Let me know if this improves the game performance any.

Can you also attempt to redownload and install the 10.3.8 update but this time go to Apples website and make sure your getting the update that has the word "combined" next to it.

If you have added memory to this system other than what it shipped with, please remove the memory and try running the game with just the factory installed memory and see if it stops crashing.Īccording to your crash reports it appears that the crash is in relation to your video card.

i've followed all your recommended settings for better game experience but the problem still persists. it's a great game but it keeps on crashing. Here's a copy of my correspondence with Macsoft Tech Support. Their conclusion is that my gpu starts to fail when my computer's been running for quite some time and that I should have it looked at. I've been in contact with Macsoft Tech Support for a few weeks now, giving them copies of crash reports and screenshots and answering their queries regarding details of the crash and other symptoms. But I noticed that playing on my computer after it has been off for awhile delays the inevitable crash. RoN crashes just a few minutes into the game. I reinstalled the game, did a permissions repair, changed the permissions of the folder and game so that I can read and write, and I even reinstalled the OS! Nothing worked! I have sent an email to MacSoft, but they just suggested that I change the permissions on the folders. Everytime I try to start a new game, any RoN game, it just quits unexpectedly. I dunno if I can help you but I am having problems with the game too.
